Rebels Batting Collapses as HCCC BIRA Cruise to 6-Wicket Victory

Match summary

Sri Lankan Rebels were bundled out for just 126 as HCCC BIRA 91 romped home with 6 wickets and 15 overs to spare in a one-sided encounter.

Match report

Sri Lankan Rebels endured a difficult afternoon as their batting lineup crumbled against a disciplined HCCC BIRA 91 attack, resulting in a comprehensive 6-wicket defeat.

Electing to bat first, Rebels found themselves in early trouble as the HCCC bowling trio wreaked havoc. Shaminder Randhawa was the chief destroyer with outstanding figures of 4/36, while Avantha Fernando provided excellent support with 3/21 from his 7 overs including a maiden.

No Rebels batter could establish themselves against the accurate bowling. Dilantha Dodangodage Don top-scored with a patient 24 off 49 balls, while Bhagya Wijeratne contributed 21 before falling to Gautam Bahl. The innings folded for just 126 in 34 overs - well below par on a decent batting surface.

Sajith Thimira tried to spark a comeback with the ball, claiming 3/29 including the early scalps of Gaurav Thakur (12) and Antony C Handa (10). Presanna Thilakaratne added another, and at 31/4, HCCC BIRA had a wobble.

But an unbroken 96-run partnership between Private player (50*) and Avantha Fernando (36*) killed any hopes of a Rebels fightback. Private player reached his fifty with seven boundaries, showing excellent timing throughout, while Fernando completed a fine all-round display.

HCCC BIRA cruised to victory in just 19.5 overs, leaving Rebels to reflect on a batting performance that simply wasn't good enough.
